Cyber Day #1

The first type of Greek government that appeared is a warrior king that ruled over the Mycenaeans.  This form of government  dominated the Mycenaeans from 1600-1100 B.C. The Dorians then moved into the territory and Mycenaean culture declined immensely. Writing cannot be found from this time period and the trade and economy completely collapsed. Greece then formed independent city-states that were either ruled by a monarchy, an aristocracy, or an oligarchy. A monarchy is ruled by one king who has complete and total control over the people. Aristocracy is where a group of a few noble families ruled over the people and oligarchy is a group of a few powerful people rule. Athens then set up a limited democracy, where all people could participate in the assembly but only the top three of four social classes could hold office. This is similar to the United States' government because any citizen can run for office but only elected officials can participate in the assembly, or congress. The problem with this is that only the wealthy have a real shot of holding a high ranking position because of the large cost of the campaign trail. Look at the current presidential race. The only candidates that have a real shot are the ones that have large amounts of money so that they can publicize themselves to the masses. Donald Trump is a billionaire and is leading the race on the republican side. Donald Trump is the best candidate for President right now, however, and here is why. Running the country is like running a massive business, and we are currently failing, miserably. We are $18 trillion dollars in debt and sinking more. Donald Trump is a successful business man that has brought in billions for his company. "Trump has filed for bankruptcy 4 times" is a common comeback for Trump opposers. But Trump used a government tool to keep the security of his employees and his business. If you are looking for a candidate that will "make America great again", Trump is your guy.

Todays Class

Today Mr. Schick read us part of "The Odyssey" by Homer that he read his daughter when she was 5 years old. It had an interesting start to it and it seemed like it could be a good book. We talked about the impending snow forecast and showed us the 'It's Friday" video from last years blizzard.

Greek Culture

Greece was not a united country due to the mountainous mainland that divided the country in a about 4 different sections. Greece is surrounded by the Adriatic sea to the west, the Ionian sea to the south, and the Aegean sea to the East. Greece stayed at about 40-80 degrees throughout the year. A warrior king ruled the Mycenaeans from about 1600-1100 B.C. in Peloponnesus, the southern peninsula of Greece. Mycenaeans became attacked by sea raiders in about 1200 B.C. and the Dorians took over and lost culture and writing for about 400 years. Homer, a blind man, told epics of war heros from the Trojan War during this time.    

First Day

Today was my first day of western civ. I hope it is like last semester but I'm pretty sure we will just be looking out of a textbook now :( We also got double homework which has never happened before :( I hope we can somehow have meaningful discussions this semester and not just study out of the textbook.
